For market valuation the assets are divided in to 3 categories.
1. Publicly traded assets: these are assets traded on the public exchanges such as the New York Stock Exchange and the Chicago Board of Trade. Pricing of these assets is done monthly.
2. Standard value assets: Investments which have a recognized market value but are not traded on an exchange. Housing values and used cars fall in this category. Value of these investments is determined by a creditable recognized authority. Pricing of these assets are done quarterly.
3. Unique market assets: Specialized research is needed to determine the value of these investments. Items falling into this category would include antiques. Asset valuations and pricing are done semi-annually
